Sparks vs Mercury Recap
The Los Angeles Sparks fell, 89-86, despite a fourth-quarter comeback and record-setting performance by Azurá Stevens. The forward-center became the fourth WNBA player ever to post at least 23 points, 17 rebounds, one block, seven made free throws and two made three-pointers in the same game, joining Lauren Jackson, Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson.
Kelsey Plum reached 500 three-pointers made in her W career with 26 seconds left in the game. The star guard did the bulk of her damage in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points (4-for-6 FG, 2-for-4 3PT, 4-for-5 FT).
Los Angeles scored 33 points in the fourth, which allowed them to cut a 14-point deficit to as little as one twice in the closing minutes. In the final frame, the Sparks shot 61.1% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 88.9% from the free-throw line.
Sarah Ashlee Barker recorded four assists and one block in her first career start, while Sania Feagin and Liatu King (4 PTS, 3 REB, 1 AST) made their WNBA debuts. Julie Allemand and Emma Cannon (6 PTS) each appeared for the first time as a Spark, the former returning from a knee injury.
