Nneka Ogwumike Earns All-WNBA Second Team Honors

Ogwumike Adds Fifth All-WNBA Selection to List of Accolades 

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 15, 2022) – The WNBA announced today that Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike earned All-WNBA Second Team honors, her fifth All-WNBA Team recognition. Ogwumike was a member of the All-WNBA First Team in 2016 and the Second Team in 2014, 2017, and 2019. For the season, Ogwumike averaged 18.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. She shot an efficient 54.4% from the field and 36.8% from the 3-point line. Ogwumike ranked 7th in the WNBA in points per game, 7th in field goal percentage, and 3rd in in steals per game.

In one of the most efficient seasons of her career, Ogwumike started and appeared in 34 games, averaging 34.1 minutes per game. She scored in double-figures in 33/34 games and scored 20 plus points 12 times. Ogwumike reached the 30-point mark twice throughout the season, scoring 30 points against the Indiana Fever on May 27 and 35 against the Fever on July 19. She was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played June 20-26, her 13th career Player of the Week recognition.

Ogwumike reached significant milestones in the 2022 season, including eclipsing 5,000 career points. She ended the regular season 20th all-time in career points at 5,194. Ogwumike also reached 450 career steals, ending the season tied for 21st all time with 488 total steals.

On July 1, Ogwumike scored 21 points against the Dallas Wings to help the Sparks become the first WNBA franchise to reach 500 regular season wins. The 2016 WNBA champion and MVP was recently inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame.
