Sparks Return Home to Face First-Place Lynx

The Sparks host the Lynx Wednesday, looking for their fourth win in five games, while the Lynx can clinch a Commissioner’s Cup Finals berth with a victory. Minnesota enters with the best record in the WNBA at 11-3, while Los Angeles stands 7-7.

The Lynx lead the league in points and rebounds per game, field-goal percentage and three-point percentage, rank second in steals per contest and are third in assists and blocks per game. Minnesota also has the best defensive rating in the WNBA and ranks second in fewest points allowed per game.

Frontrunner for this season’s Rooke of the Year Award Olivia Miles leads the team in scoring with 18.1 points, 5.9 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game with 54.7/37.5/91.8 shooting splits. The second overall pick is already one of the best players in the league.

Veteran Natasha Howard is enjoying a career year at 34 years old, scoring 17.8 points per game and shooting 64.6% from the field, third-best in the W.

Guard Courtney Willams gives Minnesota a third player averaging at least 16.9 points per game, also contributing 5.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

On the Sparks’ side, Kelsey Plum is an early-season MVP contender, while veteran forwards Nneka Ogwumike and Dearica Hamby round out Los Angeles’ All-Star trio.
