Sparks Co-Performers of the Month – July

After impressive performances in July, Dearica Hamby and Kelsey Plum are the Sparks Co-Performers of the Month.

Dearica Hamby

Forward Dearica Hamby averaged 19.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 63.5% from the field and 45.5% from beyond the arc in June. 

In July, Hamby ranked first in the Western Conference in offensive rebounds per game (2.6), second in field-goal percentage and third in rebounds per game. Across the league, Hamby ranked third in field goals made per game (8.1) and sixth in points per game.

Hamby tallied 73 rebounds across 9 games, advancing to 28th on the WNBA’s all-time rebounds list on July 13 against Connecticut. In that game, the veteran shot 53.8% from the field and finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The reigning Western Conference Player of the Week recorded her 50th career double-double in July, including three consecutive double-doubles. During the month, Hamby also recorded four 20+ point games and three multi-steal performances.

In a 93-86 win against the Mystics July 22, Hamby tallied 24 points (10-for-14 FG) and a season-high 14 rebounds, a career-high-matching six coming on of the offensive glass.

Kelsey Plum

Guard Kelsey Plum averaged 19.6 points, 6.8 assists and 3.7 assists per game for the month while shooting 46.8% from the floor and 42.6% from beyond the arc.

In July, the four-time WNBA All-Star ranked second in the league in free throws made per game (5.4), third in three-pointers made per game (2.6), fourth in assists per game (6.8) and fifth in points per game (19.6). Through nine games in July, Plum shot 96.1% from the free-throw line, making 49 out of her 51 attempts.

Against the Lynx on July 10, Plum shot 57.1% from the field, 60% from beyond the arc and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The eighth-year veteran finished with 17 points and a season-high 12 assists, marking her sixth career double-double.

During L.A.’s win over the Sun July 13, Plum moved into 15th on the WNBA’s all-time three-pointers made list. She totaled 23 points (8-for-14 FG, 3-for-7 3PT, 4-for-4 FT), three assists and a +10 rating in the contest.

After going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc against the Liberty on July 26, Plum now has the longest streak of 3+ 3PM in the WNBA this season with seven consecutive games. In the Sparks’ victory in Brooklyn, Plum accumulated 20 points and eight assists.

The lefty guard recorded a game-high 30 points (10-for-15 FG and 4-for-7 3PT), six assists and two steals in a 101-86 road victory over the Sun. The Sparks’ leading scorer had her eighth career game with at least 30 points and became one of three Sparks ever with multiple games of 30 points and five assists in a single season.
