Sparks Sign Reshanda Gray

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Sparks have signed forward Reshanda Gray, the team announced today. As a member of the New York Liberty in 2019, Gray averaged 5.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game, shooting 47.3% from the field.

“We appreciate Reshanda Gray embracing this opportunity to join the Sparks as we prepare for the 2020 season in Florida,” Managing Partner and Governor Eric Holoman said. “Reshanda is a respected teammate and professional who will fit seamlessly into our culture.”

Gray played a key role in the Liberty frontcourt last season, grabbing 176 total rebounds and 62 offensive rebounds in 519 total minutes. On June 30, 2019, Gray tallied a career-high 15 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action.

“Coaching against Reshanda last year, her aggressiveness in the paint was obvious,” Head Coach Derek Fisher said. “She’s a willing rebounder and has developed a good repertoire of post moves. We know she is someone who will mesh with our group and we’re excited to add her to the roster.”

Gray, a Los Angeles native, graduated from the University of California-Berkeley in 2015 and was named Pac-12 Player of the Year. She was then drafted 16th overall in the 2015 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx, before being traded to the Atlanta Dream that year. After playing 27 games as a rookie and 28 games in 2016 for the Dream, Gray played overseas in 2017 and 2018.

“Everything happens for a reason,” Gray said. “I’m just grateful for the opportunity to represent my hometown and be a part of the Los Angeles franchise. It’s a dream come true.”

Gray will join a Sparks frontcourt that includes former MVP’s Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike, along with four-time champion Seimone Augustus and 2020 additions Kristine Anigwe and Marie Gulich.
