LOS ANGELES – Sparks Executive Vice President and General Manager Penny Toler announced today the signing of forward Ashley Walker, who is currently playing overseas for Mersin (Turkey). In Eurocup play, Walker is averaging 20.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.8 assists per game on 54 percent shooting. In Turkish League play, Walker is averaging 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.4 assists per game, while shooting 58 percent from the field.
“I’m looking forward to Ashley joining us in training camp,” Toler said. “She is a player that can play facing the basket and with her back to the basket, and is a very good rebounder who has improved her talents at both ends of the court playing overseas.”
Walker was drafted 12th overall in 2009 by the Seattle Storm. She also played for the Tulsa Shock in 2010 and for the Connecticut Sun in 2013. In addition to the WNBA, Walker has played professionally in Israel, Ukraine, Turkey, Italy and Romania.
Walker is from Stockton, California and played collegiately at the University of California, Berkeley where she is the all-time leader in rebounds, free throws made and free throws attempted.
