Sykes Earned WNBA All-Defensive Second Team Honors in 2020 Season
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Sparks announced today the re-signing of guard/wing Brittney Sykes. In 2020, her first season with the Sparks, Sykes averaged 10.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 48.7% from the field.
Sykes regularly defended the opponents strongest perimeter player and consistently limited their production. Her defensive prowess was recognized as she was named to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team. She also showed an ability to drive to the basket and shot 80.2% from the free-throw line. Sykes started in 15 of her 22 appearances in 2020, including the Sparks playoff game.

She’s shown an ability throughout her career to be a two-way perimeter player that puts her stamp on the game in several ways. Our entire staff is excited to work with her moving forward.”
Sykes, who attended Syracuse University, was drafted No. 7 overall in the 2017 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream and made the 2017 All-Rookie Team. She played for the Dream from 2017-2019 before the Sparks acquired her prior to the 2020 season in a trade that sent Kalani Brown to Atlanta in exchange for Sykes and Marie Gülich. For her career, she’s averaged 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.2 minutes per game.

Sykes is currently playing overseas in Turkey for OGM Ormanspor where’s she’s averaging 15.1 points on 47% shooting and 1.1 steals per game in league play.
