LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Sparks acquired a 2021 second round pick from the Dallas Wings in exchange for guard Marina Mabrey, the team announced today. The Sparks also waived Alexis Jones, who was picked up by the Atlanta Dream.
“These moves provide us with additional flexibility as we build a 2020 team that gives us the best chance to compete for a championship,” Managing Partner and Governor Eric Holoman said. “The Sparks organization would like to thank Marina Mabrey and Alexis Jones for their contributions.”
The Sparks drafted Mabrey in the second round of the 2019 draft. In her rookie season, she appeared in 31 games and averaged 4.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 34.4% from the field.
Alexis Jones came to the Sparks in a 2019 offseason trade with the Minnesota Lynx. In her one season in Los Angeles, she averaged 4.0 points and 1.8 assists per game and was limited to 20 appearances due to a knee injury.
The Sparks recently signed two-time WNBA champion Kristi Toliver from the Washington Mystics, four-time WNBA champion Seimone Augustus from the Minnesota Lynx and acquired guard Brittney Skyes and center Marie Gülich in a trade with the Atlanta Dream.
