LOS ANGELES (July 31, 2023) – The Los Angeles Sparks announced today the signing of Evina Westbrook to a 7-Day hardship contract.
The Albany, OR native was the first Mexican-American drafted in WNBA history when she was selected 21st overall in the 2022 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. After being waived by Seattle, Westbrook was signed by the Minnesota Lynx and then the Washington Mystics. In 20 total games played in 2022, Westbrook averaged 2.8 points-per-game and 1.2 assists-per-game, while shooting 38% from the field.
Most recently, the Phoenix Mercury claimed Westbrook off waivers on May 9, 2023, and she appeared in nine games. She then joined Libertadores in Mexico, where she played in seven games, averaging 6.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3,6 assists, and 1.4 steals in 28.4 minutes per game.
Westbrook attended Tennessee and the University of Connecticut, where she helped guide the Huskies to a Final Four appearance. In the 2023 offseason, Westbrook played Athletes Unlimited basketball with current Sparks players Layshia Clarendon, Lexie Brown and Jordin Canada.
