With the WNBA’s month-long Olympic break nearing its end, Sparks fans have plenty to look forward to in the season’s unofficial second half, including a change of venue for home games, a more forgiving schedule, and star players returning from injury.

The Sparks return to action at home against the Indiana Fever on Sunday August 15 for the #WeAreWomen game presented by Equitrust and supported by Chanson Cosmetics. Fans will be able to see their team play at Staples Center for the first time since 2019.

LA plays another two games at home against the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday August 17 and Thursday August 19. Join your Sparks on August 17 for Take Me Back Tuesday and explore the 90s in this retro theme night.

Indiana and Atlanta have a combined 10-29 record thus far, leaving the door open for the Sparks to start hot once the season resumes. Moreover, eight of Los Angeles’ 13 remaining contests will be played against opponents with losing records. Just nine of their first 19 contests this season pitted them against teams currently sitting below .500.

Soon after, The Sparks will host the Connecticut Sun and celebrate Hispanic Heritage for Noche Latina on September 9. Then, the defending WNBA champion Seattle Storm will be at Staples for Fan Appreciation Night on September 12.

Nneka Ogwumike and Kristi Toliver have been full participants in practice and barring any setbacks are expected back in the lineup on Aug. 15. Chiney Ogwumike is progressing well and will resume practice in the next week as she targets a return to action. The Sparks are not expecting center Maria Vadeeva back, which opens the door for the 2020 No. 3 overall pick Lauren Cox to play a bigger role. The team also recently signed Karlie Samuelson to a 7-day contract after terminating the hardship contract of Bria Holmes.

The Sparks are hopeful that 2019 All-Star Erica Wheeler (14 ppg), Brittney Sykes (9.1 ppg), Amanda Zahui B. (11.4 ppg) and Nia Coffey (7.3 ppg) continue their strong play from the first half.

The Sparks lead the WNBA in opponent turnovers per game (18.8) and are +14.7 points per 100 possessions defensively when Sykes, the 2020 Second Team All-Defense honoree, is on the court.
