LA Sparks Enter Multi-Year Extension with Anthem Blue Cross

Purpose driven partnership will continue focusing on addressing issues such as food insecurity, mental health, and other disparities in under resourced communities in Los Angeles County

The Los Angeles Sparks and Anthem Blue Cross announced today a multi-year extension to their purpose-driven partnership aimed at making an impact on people’s health by focusing on challenges such as food insecurity, mental health, and social justice issues in under resourced communities. Anthem will continue to be the exclusive health insurance sponsor for the LA Sparks and the presenting partner of Spark Wellbeing.

As part of the partnership, the team will promote three main pillars for Spark Wellbeing in the community: Keeping Kids in the Game, a program providing youth with instructional basketball clinics and wellness information; Empowering Women, supporting local organizations that serve women who may need clothing, supplies or a healthy meal; and initiatives to help address food insecurity in Los Angeles area school communities, which amplifies Anthem’s commitment to addressing social drivers of health. The Sparks and Anthem will also host an International Women’s Day Donation Drive on March 8th and Breast Health Awareness Night on Sunday, September 8th.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the LA Sparks which will allow us to make an even bigger impact on the health and wellbeing of Los Angeles families and communities we serve,” said Beth Andersen, President of Anthem Blue Cross. “Together, we will continue our collective work to make a measurable impact – through education, awareness and community health and engagement initiatives – on the health of individuals and families in and around Los Angeles.”

We are pleased to extend our partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and continue our work focused on the betterment of people in under resourced communities,” Sparks Vice President, Community and Social Impact Natalie White said. “Their commitment to serving diverse communities goes hand in hand with our organizational values at the Sparks and we look forward to growing our impact in Los Angeles.”

This partnership, along with Anthem’s work with the Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and the Atlanta Dream will continue to address social and health inequities in numerous communities. When the Sparks match up against these teams during the WNBA season, both organizations will come together to host joint community activities to continue to impact health challenges in their respective cities, such as food insecurity and mental health.
