With just 10 regular-season games remaining, the Sparks are right in the thick of the playoff chase. After a strong 10-2 stretch from July through mid-August, they sit ninth in the standings, a half-game behind the Storm for the final playoff spot.

On Sunday, Los Angeles came up short in a 95-86 road loss to the Mystics. Despite the loss, the Sparks have been one of the league’s most consistent and best offensive teams over the past month.

The three-time WNBA champions have scored 90 or more points in 11 of their last 14 games, winning 10 of these. On the season, they rank second in scoring and lead the league in points in the paint.

Wings:

The Wings enter this matchup in 11th place, looking to generate some momentum as the regular season winds down. They lost, 106-87, in Las Vegas in their last game, getting 23 points from forward Maddy Siegrist.

While wins have been hard to come by, Dallas has shown flashes, with four of its nine victories coming in June. Its most recent win came in a nailbiter in Indianapolis, edging the Fever, 81-80.

Statistically, Dallas has remained competitive on the glass, tied for second in the league in rebounds per game (35.8). They’ve also been reliable at the charity stripe, ranking fourth in free-throw percentage (80.9%).

The History: Sparks vs Wings

These franchises have faced off 81 times, with Los Angeles holding a 49-32 all-time advantage. The Sparks have also won seven of the last 10 meetings, including a 97-96 victory Thursday. That result gave L.A. a 2-0 lead in the season series, both wins coming at College Park Center.

Players to Watch:

Sparks:

Kelsey Plum has been a key contributor to Los Angeles’ success over Dallas this season. In the Sparks’ most recent victory, the four-time All-Star posted 28 points (9-for-17 FG, 3-for-5 3PT, 7-for-10 FT) and five assists. In 23 career games against the Wings, Plum averages 15.2 PPG, 2.9 RPG and 4.0 APG.

Dearica Hamby continues to be a driving force for the Sparks, averaging 19.9 PPG, 7.1 REB and 3.3 AST in the month of August. Last month, the 11th-year forward earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors after leading L.A. to an undefeated stretch late in July.

Julie Allemand became the fifth Sparks player ever to record a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists at home Aug. 7 against the Sun. The Belgian guard is averaging 6.8 assists per game in August and provides a steady playmaking presence to the team’s backcourt.

Wings:

Paige Bueckers has stood out this season. On Thursday against the Sparks, the rookie guard dropped a game-high 29 points, becoming the fastest rookie to reach the 500-point mark, accomplishing it in just 27 games.

Maddy Siegrist has also made an impact, averaging 11.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. The third-year forward leads the Wings in field-goal percentage at 50.6% and ranks third in second-chance points league-wide.
