Aces vs. Sparks - Home Opener Game Recap
The Los Angeles Sparks fell, 105-78, to the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday at home in their season debut, despite strong offensive performances from Kelsey Plum, Nneka Ogwumike and Dearica Hamby.
Plum led all scorers with 27 points on an efficient 10-for-18 shooting clip, playing a team-high 35 minutes. This marks the dynamic guard’s 31st game scoring over 25 points in her WNBA career. She went 4-for-8 from deep, collecting her 48th regular-season performance with at least four triples in a regular-season W contest. This ties her with Hall of Famer Maya Moore and former Spark Kristi Toliver for 10th all-time.
Ogwumike came out firing with 15 first-half points, finishing with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. The feat marked the 116th double-double of the star veteran's career, ranking her sixth in league history. Ogwumike went 3-for-5 from long range, marking the 14th time she has converted at least three treys in a game in her WNBA career. Meanwhile, Hamby added 12 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes, getting to the free-throw line eight times.
As a team, Los Angeles attempted 31 shots from beyond the arc, tied for the sixth-most three-point attempts in Sparks history.
Los Angeles turns its attention to Wednesday, May 13, when the Sparks return home to take on the Indiana Fever at 7:30 p.m.
