LOS ANGELES, CA – February 14, 2017 – Penny Toler, Los Angeles Sparks’ Executive Vice President and General Manager, today announced a contract extension for Jantel Lavender. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Jantel is the ultimate team player! She continues to impress me every day with her growth and development,” said Penny Toler, LA Sparks Executive Vice President and General Manager. “Her selflessness, team first, and all-in mentality was a huge part of us being crowned WNBA Champions.”
The 6-foot-4 center was the fifth draft pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft by the LA Sparks and has spent her six years in the league with the team. Lavender had a breakout year as the team’s starting center in 2015, averaging a career-high 14.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 1.8 apg and in 2016, won the Sixth Woman of the Year Award while shooting a career high of 53.8 FG.
“After winning a championship last season, something I think this team has worked really hard for the whole six seasons I played, it’s only right that I stay to try to continue to add on to the legacy this organization already has,” said LA Sparks Sixth Woman of the Year, Jantel Lavender. “LA is home for me, so coming back was a no brainer. The fans are amazing and I don’t think there are any other fans in the league that are as loyal as they are, I want to see their faces for as long as I possibly can.”
The 2017 Sparks season will tip-off May 13 at 2pm, presented by EquiTrust. The home opener will feature the Championship Ring Ceremony.
