The Los Angeles Sparks are celebrating the 7th annual #WeAreWomen empowerment campaign and we need your nominations! Celebrate the stand-up women in your life who continue to break down the barriers women face on the court, in the office and day to day in their communities.
This year, we will honor five women from the Los Angeles area in the following categories:
- Social Justice
- Health & Wellness
- Women & Girls Empowerment
- Military &Veteran Affairs
Additionally, we are seeking nominations for our new category, Male Ally of the Year.
Finalists will be selected based on each category’s requirements. The 2021 Woman of The Year award will be selected from our five finalists.
The deadline for nominations is July 25, 2021, and finalists will be notified by August 6, 2021.
Each of the finalists will be honored during the August 15th LA Sparks home game at Staples Center. Below are the nominee requirements for each category. Ally of the Year
The Ally of the Year is a male that is committed to building relationships with women, understanding the social privilege conferred by his gender, and demonstrating active efforts to address gender inequities at work and in society. He is critical for promoting safety and gender equality, especially in the workplace. He is known for standing up, speaking up and stepping up on behalf of the women in his circle.
The Community Nominee will have made a positive impact in her community within the Los Angeles area. She has impacted youth, change, relationships, environment, health, and/or relationships for the good of the community.
The Social Justice Nominee has impacted social change to build a better, stronger and more competent community, while improving quality of life and fostering a sense of pride in Los Angeles. She has built positive relationships between groups of people, advocates for underserved/underrepresented communities around the inequalities in health, education, housing, financials and/or relationships. She is a change maker, educator in her own right and is dedicated to social justice change in LA and beyond.
Health & Wellness
The Health & Wellness Nominee is an advocate for health and wellness. She is dedicated to creating educational spaces for women and youth in marginalized communities to learn more about taking care of their physical health, and normalizing mental health concerns. Through her ongoing activism she has lent support, provided resources, and created an overall healthier, more active lifestyle for women of all ages.
Women & Girls Empowerment
The Women & Girls Empowerment Nominee is a mentor, leader and actively focuses on women and girl’s challenges in the community. She utilizes her platforms to provide resources to women and girls on how to support other women, and how to lead a healthy physical and emotional lifestyle. She continues to make sure the next generation of women feel empowered and are knowledgeable on a variety of challenges women face today.
Military & Veteran Affairs
The Military & Veteran Affairs Nominee will have a history of educating, assisting, and growing a community of support across Southern California for active duty, women veterans, and their families. They are helping veterans achieve their ultimate physical, spiritual, emotional, mental health and well-being goals.
