Annually, Google releases its top-trending searches for the entirety of the year, as part of their “Year in Search.” The Year in Search is meant to showcase the most popular interests and events throughout the world. Lists are provided for a variety of categories, such as popular artists, actors, consumer tech, etc, and can be categorized globally or by country.
Google has released its Year in Search, 2017 Top Trending WNBA Teams, and the Los Angeles Sparks were named at #3. It is Google’s 17th annual edition of their Year in Search and the Los Angeles Sparks was one of the most googled teams based on trillions of searches worldwide.
Forward Nneka Ogwumike also made Google’s Year in Search and was one of the most searched WNBA players for 2017. Ogwumike made the WNBA Western All-Star team in 2017 and was an integral part to the Sparks playoff run. She is currently playing in Russia for Dynamo Kursk where she leads her team in minutes per game and is average 14.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game.
The Los Angeles Sparks were coming of a 2016 WNBA championship entering the 2017 season. Los Angeles made it to the WNBA Finals for a rematch against the Minnesota Lynx but fell short in Game 5 of the Finals.
