Sparks Announce Economic Empowerment Events Surrounding #WeAreWomen Campaign

Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Sparks are celebrating women’s empowerment with two events in support of the season-long #WeAreWomen campaign:

Annual #WeAreWomen Game presented by EquiTrust

For the 4th straight season, the LA Sparks will sell out STAPLES Center for their #WEAREWOMEN game, this year on Sunday August 5 against the Phoenix Mercury. The event highlights the accomplishments, leadership and empowerment of women and demonstrates the spending power of women and those that support them. Sparks President and COO Christine Simmons will be the keynote speaker at the annual awards luncheon presented by Bank of America, where nominees for Health and Wellness, Entrepreneurship and the Man and Woman of the Year will be honored. Winners will be announced at halftime on the court and three youth scholarships will be awarded by the Hutt Group, Mad Mac Foundation and SHE Beverages. The luncheon will take place in the Lexus Club at Staples Center from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Tickets are still available to be a part of this historic event.

Ballin’ on a Budget presented by EquiTrust

On Monday August 6, the Sparks will hold the third installment of their 2018 series Driven2Hoop “Ballin’ on a Budget” in partnership with EquiTrust. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Historic Watts Labor Community Action Center in Watts, CA (10950 S. Central Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90059). The event will focus on economic empowerment and teaching financial literacy to 200 children and parents. Rosemary Parson, Senior Vice President of Policy Administration and Community Relations at EquiTrust, will be the keynote speaker.

“Economic empowerment is a fundamental key in changing the trajectory of women in all industries, communities and walks of life,” Simmons said. “Sunday’s game shows the world the power and impact of change agents on the court in our amazing athletes as well as leaders off the court representing the Los Angeles community. The #WeAreWomen Game, in conjunction with Monday’s financial literacy training with Equitrust, are just two examples of the Sparks commitment to changing lives in the community around us. This season we are #All4LA and this Sunday we are #All4Her.”
