In May of 2016, the Los Angeles Sparks launched the #WeAreGirls empowerment campaign. #WeAreGirls engages middle school and high school-aged youth using a multi-pronged outreach and intervention approach that includes special events, monthly programming, in-game experiences, and an official youth Ambassador Council. Engagement is year round, with the heaviest engagement during the in-season game months of May to October.

As an official Los Angeles Sparks member of the #WeAreGirls Ambassador Council, a girl aged 10-17 must:

  1. Serve in a leadership capacity throughout the year, both in-game and at special events.
  2. Spearhead and complete one (1) community service project per year where at least 100 people are positively impacted. Projects are pre-approved by the Los Angeles Sparks Front Office and the focus of the project must fall under one of the team’s community outreach pillars:
    • Women & Girls Empowerment
    • Health & Wellness
    • Youth Sports
    • Equity in Education
    • Military & Veterans Affairs

Organize and execute Planning Committee deliverables to ensure that each new year of #WeAreGirls programming remains current, as it relates to areas of focus, youth learning opportunities, and popular trends.
